During Monday night’s WNBA draft, UConn Huskies star Paige Bueckers unintentionally stole a fraction of the spotlight from former teammate Aaliyah Edwards simply by taking out her phone.

When Edwards was drafted by the Washington Mystics with the No. 6 pick, Bueckers was seen pulling out her phone camera and trying to get the picture-perfect shot of Edwards as she walked up to the podium.

In other words, Bueckers was acting like the ultimate proud mom.

Bueckers’s behavior quickly went viral on X (formerly known as Twitter). Even Edwards said that Bueckers was “recording like a proud momma.”

And college basketball fans loved it.

Bueckers alaso displayed similar supportive antics later that night when teammate Nika Muhl was drafted by the Seattle Storm with the No. 14 pick.

This past season, Bueckers, Edwards and Muhl carried the Huskies to the Final Four—UConn’s 23rd all-time appearance—before getting knocked out by Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes. The 22-year-old Bueckers will return to UConn next season for what will likely be one last dance with coach Geno Auriemma.
