South Carolina’s MiLaysia Fulwiley Impressed Magic Johnson With Her Moves in Debut
Leading up to No. 6 South Carolina’s international clash against No. 10 Notre Dame in Paris, Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley said she was thrilled about this year’s team despite graduating seven players from last season.
After the Gamecocks’ 100–71 victory against the Fighting Irish on Monday afternoon, it is easy to see why Staley is excited about her team, especially after the play of freshman guard MiLaysia Fulwiley.
Within less than three minutes to play before halftime, Fulwiley maneuvered her way through the Notre Dame defense, taking the ball behind her back and finishing on an incredible layup that left South Carolina fans in awe as well as NBA legend Magic Johnson.
“I’m watching the women’s basketball game between South Carolina and Notre Dame right now and I just saw the best move in all of basketball including the pros like LeBron, Steph, KD, Victor, and Jokic. Everyone must see the coast-to-coast, behind-the-back move by freshman guard MiLaysia Fulwiley from South Carolina. WOW!! @GamecockWBB,” Johnson posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Kevin Durant was also among those impressed by what he saw from Paris, celebrating Fulwiley and Notre Dame star Hannah Hidalgo and encouraging fans to check out the action on ESPN.
Fulwiley finished with 17 points and was one of five South Carolina players who finished in double figures in the Gamecocks’ win. South Carolina (1–0) will return to Columbia, S.C. for a Sunday matchup against No. 14 Maryland.
