Newest ‘WWE Legends’ Episode Chronicles the Life of Dusty Rhodes
Cody Rhodes returned to WWE last year to rewrite the finish to his story.
Instead of being known for leaving WWE in a state of aggravation, Rhodes completely redefined himself. He worked the independent circuit, carved a role in Bullet Club, and then helped form All Elite Wrestling. Now he is pursuing the WWE championship, which will continue to be a major part of his story until it comes to fruition. But there is another reason Rhodes came back to WWE, and a critical component of that will be on display this Sunday.
Rhodes served as a producer for Sunday’s Biography: WWE Legends on the late, great Dusty Rhodes. His beloved father was a genuine wrestling icon, and he is now able to play a hands-on role with WWE in the manner in which his father’s footage is displayed.
“WWE and A&E memorializing my father in this documentary has been a blessed experience,” says Rhodes. “Helping catalog, correct and bring light to Dusty’s life was a grand responsibility and one of the reasons I returned to WWE. Seeing the facts that support the legend, make this a beautiful watch for old fans and new fans alike.”
Footage and insight from current AEW star Dustin Rhodes, who is Dusty’s oldest son, at his Rhodes Wrestling Academy helps make this episode even more memorable. And there will be plenty of other familiar faces. In addition to creating an enduring highlight reel from his own career, Rhodes also helped develop the current group of today’s stars during his time as a coach in NXT. A small sampling of those who benefited greatly from his insight were Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, and Becky Lynch,
The special will debut at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, and Rhodes is honored to share another piece of his father’s legacy.
“The best part of producing this doc was not the countless rewatches of old promos and matches, but being able to watch for the first time ever an unseen interview only weeks before he passed,” says Rhodes. “That interview serves as a spine for this documentary and in his own words, Dusty answers the question, ‘What was the most important thing to you?’ [Director] Rob Liano and his team did a wonderful job.”
