Former NFL Player, Pro Wrestler Darren Drozdov Dies at 54
Former NFL noseguard and pro wrestler Darren Drozdov passed away Friday at the age of 54.
Drozdov, who played three seasons in the NFL but was known best for his pro wrestling career as “Puke” and later as “Droz,” appeared in the ECW and was a part of the WWE’s debut in 1998. Unfortunately, just as his wrestling career was taking off, he broke his neck in a 1999 match against D’Lo Brown, which paralyzed him from the neck down.
Drozdov eventually regained movement in his arms and upper body, but remained in a wheelchair until his death.
“There are no words to convey the deep sense of loss and sadness we are feeling right now,” Drozdov’s family said. “We would like to extend our deepest appreciation for everyone. All of his fans, teammates, colleagues and friends for all the love and support he received over the years. You all gave him meaning, purpose and something to live for. He loved each and every one of you and cherished the conversations, notes and letters he received. His faith in humanity never faltered, so know that for all the love you’ve shown him, he loved you back.”
Drozdov played three seasons in the NFL but suited up for only six career games, all with the Broncos in 1993. He played his college football at Maryland. He died of natural causes.
