Tonight's episode of Friday Night SmackDown will determine the first challenger for Cody Rhodes' Undisputed WWE Championship.

A crucial episode of Friday Night SmackDown on the road to WWE Backlash 2024 takes place this evening.

Tonight, we will find out who will be the first official challenger for Cody Rhodes' Undisputed WWE Championship. AJ Styles and LA Knight will compete in singles action to determine who will go on to challenge "The American Nightmare" for the top prize on the blue brand.

Who will get their shot at gold inside LDLC Arena in DΓ©cines-Charpieu in Lyon Metropolis, France on May 4th?

WWE NEWS: COLOSSAL UPDATE ON WWE WORKING WITH ANOTHER PROMOTION, SHARING TALENT?

While the biggest SmackDown championship on the male side won't be defended on WWE TV until Backlash, we'll get to witness a Women's Championship match tonight. Titleholder Bayley will put her gold on the line against Naomi, who earned the opportunity after pinning Tiffany Stratton last week.

There will also be a huge fatal 4-way tag team match with title implications. During WrestleMania 40, Austin Theory and Grayson Waller were able to capture the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. Tonight, they will learn who their first challengers will be. The Street Profits, Authors of Pain, New Catch Republic, and the team of Angel and Berto of Legado Del Fantasma will do battle for a shot at A-Town Down Under.

Fans have been wondering what the fallout will be after a clear sign of mutiny within The Bloodline was on display last Friday. What will the follow-up be after Solo Sikoa turned his back on Jimmy Uso by enlisting the help of Tama Tonga to take out his brother?

SmackDown opened showing WWE Women's Champion Bayley entering the arena along with her challenger Naomi.

AJ Styles vs. LA Knight - Number one contender match for the Undisputed WWE Championship

Styles had his head rammed into the announce table multiple times. In the ring, AJ went for the Styles Clash, but Knight dumped him to the outside before the first commercial break.

Knight and Styles collided with simultaneous crossbody moves. Knight stomped Styles in the corner and hit a running knee.

With Styles on the top turnbuckle, Knight did his trademark leap and connected with a superplex for a two-count. AJ went for the Phenomenal Forearm, but Knight reversed into a powerslam followed by an elbow drop.

Knight went for BFT, but Styles rolled to the ring apron. AJ poked Knight in the eye and hit the Phenomenal Forearm for the win.

Winner: AJ Styles

A video recap played of Tama Tonga's WWE debut where he joined The Bloodline and attacked Jimmy Uso.

Paul Heyman was outside and he awaited the arrival of Sikoa. Tama soon followed. Solo asked Heyman if Kevin Owens is here. He demanded "The Wiseman" take him to KO.

SmackDown GM Nick Aldis was in the ring. He welcomed Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque. During Levesque's entrance, a mysterious QR code appeared.

Together, "Triple H" and Aldis presented Austin Theory and Grayson Waller with brand new WWE Tag Team Championships.

Theory and Waller disrespected "Triple H" by refusing to shake his hand. Aldis warned A-Town Down Under that if they disrespect Levesque again, he will make them disappear from the SmackDown brand.

Naomi was interviewed by Kayla Braxton. She made it clear that her friendship with Bayley won't impact their title match tonight.

Fatal 4-Way Number One Contender Match: The Street Profits vs. AOP vs. New Catch Republic vs. Legado Del Fantasma

Montez Ford and Tyler Bate got the match started. The two had a slew of counters before Berto tagged in and knocked Bate down. Legado Del Fantasma doubled teamed Ford, which saw Angel hit a running knee.

AOP cleaned house before an ad break.

New Catch Republic started to gain an advantage, hitting a German suplex lariat combo on Berto. The Street Profits and New Catch Republic helped Bate carry Akam, but Legado Del Fantasma quickly broke it up.

Bate took a nasty looking dropkick/powerbomb combo from Berto and Angel, but he appeared to be fine.

The Street Profits hit an elevated Blockbuster on Berto, but Pete Dunne broke up the pin.

Ford, Dunne, and Bate all landed dives on the outside almost simultaneously. Street Profits hit The Revelation on Angel for the win.

Winners: The Street Profits

Bayley was interviewed by Byron Saxton. The WWE Women's Champion said things are bound to change with the draft. She said she may be friends with Naomi, but she plans to retain the gold tonight.

Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman were backstage. Heyman said KO has to be around somewhere. Sikoa continued to ignore Paul. Heyman said Sikoa is making decisions that aren't meant for him right now. Before he could say the decision-making should only be left to Roman Reigns, Solo asked Paul if he was done talking. He then made his way out to the ring with "The Wiseman."

As Heyman was talking, "We want Roman" chants broke out. Solo snatched the mic from Heyman as he struggled talking about Reigns' importance in The Bloodline. Fans in Pittsburgh showered Solo in boos.

As Solo was talking, Tama dragged KO towards the ramp. Owens was bloodied. Tama joined Solo in the ring and the two put the ones up.

Owens walked back to the ring and started hitting Tama. Solo jumped in and threw KO to the ring steps as officials were trying to restore order. Owens once again fought Tama before Solo hit the Samoan Spike. Tama then started hitting the security guards.

Tama then grabbed a chair before SmackDown GM Nick Aldis warned him and Solo to leave the ring.

In the parking lot, Nick Aldis showed Paul Heyman damage done to KO's car after Tama's vehicle drove into it. Aldis said he will not tolerate this from The Bloodline going forward, and if not, then there will be severe consequences.

Santos Escobar vs. Carlito

Carlito hit a dive on Escobar on the outside. He held Zelina Vega on his shoulders to taunt Santos going into the break.

Carlito was distracted by Elektra Lopez's attack on Zelina on the outside, allowing Santos to kick the ropes into Carlito's groin. Santos hit Phantom Driver for the win.

Winner: Santos Escobar

Kayla Braxton was in the luxury box with Damage CTRL. She asked why the faction wanted to see Bayley vs. Naomi. As Dakota Kai was talking, Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair confronted them. It's clear they want a shot at The Kabuki Warriors for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship.

Cody Rhodes sent a message from the UK tour responding to AJ Styles being his first challenger for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WWE Backlash.

Bayley (c) vs. Naomi - for WWE Women's Championship

The two traded pins early and were knocked to the mat with double crossbody moves. Naomi landed a bulldog for a near fall. Bayley ran into the Rearview early, but she kicked out before an ad break.

Bayley went for the elbow, but Naomi got her knees up. A facebuster from the challenger could not secure a three-count. She went for a split-legged moonsaunt, but this time Bayley got her own knees up.

Bayley hit a long range Elbow Drop, but Naomi kicked out. Naomi transitioned from a pin into a submission attempt. Bayley turned the tide with a pin, but only got a two.

The two met at the center of the ring and traded forearms. A step-up knee from Naomi sent Bayley to the outside. Naomi hit a plancha on the champion.

Bayley hit Bayley-to-Belly on Naomi onto the announce table, but Tiffany Stratton caused the no contest thanks to her interference.

Tiffany ended the show by hitting Prettiest Moonsault Ever on Bayley and Naomi.

Bayley vs. Naomi ended in a no contest.
