New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan apologized to Jets fans and committed to Geno Smith as his starting quarterback next week in the wake of the team's fourth straight loss, a 31-0 defeat to the San Diego Chargers.
"I apologize to our fans, the ones that are left," Ryan said after the game.

Ryan also said Smith will start in the team's Week 6 matchup against the Denver Broncos.
The Jets benched Smith at halftime of Sunday's loss in favor of veteran backup Michael Vick, who threw for 47 yards and was sacked twice.

In the first half Sunday, Smith completed just 4-of-12 passes for 27 yards. He threw one interception and finished with a quarterback rating of 7.6.
Through the Jets first four games, Smith has thrown for 922 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions. He has also come under increasing fire after he cursed at a fan while walking off the field after a loss last week to the Detroit Lions.
The loss on Sunday dropped the Jets to 1-4.
