2023 Jets Country Player Profile: LB Jamien Sherwood (44)
Linebacker Jamien Sherwood has a chance to take the Year 3 leap and earn a starting role while doing so.
The 2021 fifth-round draft pick appears to be the preseason favorite to fill the New York Jets' outside linebacker role vacated by an unsigned Kwon Alexander.
"Wood’s doing a really nice job," said head coach Robert Saleh during OTAs in early June.
The Auburn product has practiced at all three linebacker spots during his young NFL tenure.
Most of his playing time, however, has come on special teams. Sherwood has taken only 164 defensive snaps over a two-year period, but that's been enough to impress Jets' ninth-year linebacker C.J. Mosley.
"I'm excited for what Jamien Sherwood is going to be bringing this year," said Mosley on training camp report day in Florham Park. "He's one of the smartest players on our defense and on this team. He's a hard worker, one of the hardest workers in the weight room and the classroom. I really feel like he has a great chance, this camp, to show what he's about."
Sherwood's rookie season was limited to five games (4 starts) due to an Achilles tear. He has totaled 31 stops over 22 NFL appearances.
