Jets Sign Dalvin Cook's Replacement Prior to Season Finale

Practice Squad running back promoted on Friday with possible futures deal on way

The New York Jets had a spot open in their running backs room following the release of veteran Dalvin Cook earlier this week.

After parting ways with the four-time Pro Bowl ball carrier, who has since cleared waivers and joined the Baltimore Ravens, the Jets active roster listed only two running backs — second-year pro Breece Hall and fifth-round rookie Israel Abanikanda. On Friday, the team reportedly added a third rusher to the 53-man roster by signing Xazavian Valladay off the Practice Squad.

NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo reported the signing on the social media site X, citing the player's agent as a source.

The 25-year-old Valladay, an undrafted rookie, signed to the Jets' Practice Squad prior to the season opener after spending time with the Texans and the Steelers. The rookie out of Arizona State signed with Pittsburgh on August 15 but didn't survive cutdown day. He carried seven times for 26 yards in the Steelers' preseason finale.

Valladay will likely make his NFL regular season debut in the regular season finale against the New England Patriots on January 7.
