BC Lions Sack Master Mathieu Betts Earns Third NFL Workout
NFL teams think highly of the best pass rusher in the CFL Mathieu Betts. That continues to be the case as Mathieu Betts makes another stop on his workout tour.
The 28-year-old sack master got his third NFL workout of the offseason at the Buffalo Bills on Friday, according to 3DownNation.
It was a breakout season for Betts as he terrorized offensive lines all year racking up a league-high 18 sacks, which was six more than the next-highest player in the league. He added 44 total tackles and four forced fumbles in 18 games for the BC Lions.
Betts was named the 2023 CFL’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award. He added CFL All-Star and CFL West All-Star to his stellar 2023 season.
Betts joined the Lions in 2022, as he finished his first season with 28 total tackles and seven sacks in 18 games. The Edmonton Elks took him third overall in the 2019 CFL Draft. He only played 19 games in his first two seasons in the league, recording 13 tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble.
This isn’t the only time the NFL has shown interest in Betts. Before the CFL, he signed with the Chicago Bears after the 2019 NFL Draft and spent time with the team in the preseason before being cut.
Two other NFL teams have brought Betts in for workouts this offseason in the Detroit Lions and the Cleveland Browns. He’s scheduled to be a free agent in February.
