Calgary Stampeders Sign American DB Rodney Randle Jr.
Looking to add experience and skill to its secondary, Calgary has signed an American defensive back to the roster.
The team announced Thursday it had signed Rodney Randle Jr. to a contract.
Randle spent this year with the New England Patriots after signing a futures contract in January. He recorded 12 tackles during the preseason, but the team ultimately released him at the end of training camp.
His previous two seasons were spent with the Montreal Alouettes, during which he appeared in 23 total games. Randle has a career stat line of 58 defensive tackles, 11 special teams and four interceptions.
Randle spent four seasons at Lamar University, racking up 170 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, five interceptions, 21 pass deflections, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 41 games. He also served as a returner on special teams, taking back 84 kickoffs for 1,802 yards and one touchdown. He was a two-time All-Southland Conference selection.
Randle went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft before signing with the Los Angeles Chargers. After being cut at the final release deadline, he briefly played in the XFL as a member of the Tampa Bay Vipers.
This is the first player the Stampeders have signed outside the organization in two weeks.
