Calgary Stampeders Re-Sign Quarterback

The Calgary Stampeders announced the re-signing of backup quarterback Tommy Stevens.

The Calgary Stampeders can be reassured that their short-yardage game will still be intact after re-signing backup quarterback Tommy Stevens. The team made the announcement on Wednesday.

Stevens attended Penn State and Mississippi State during his college career. In his senior season at Mississippi State, he finished with 1,155 yards and 11 touchdowns to five interceptions. He also ran for 381 yards and four touchdowns.

The New Orleans Saints drafted Stevens in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He played for the Saints, Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants during his career. His only appearance in an NFL game was with the Panthers where he ran four times for 24 yards.

He has been with the Stampeders since 2022, mainly serving as the backup quarterback and used on short-yard situations. Stevens has played in 36 games, rushing 100 times for 448 yards and 15 touchdowns, while adding 10 completions for 58 yards and one score.

He led the Stampeders in rushing touchdowns scoring six times during the regular season. He also added 44 carries for 151 yards in the process. His passing stats for the season include four completions for 17 passing yards.

Calgary’s move for Stevens makes him the 14th player to be signed by the Stampeders this offseason.

The Stampeders finished 6-12 in the West and claimed the third playoff spot out of the division. Their season ended with a 40-31 loss in the Western Semifinal against the BC Lions.
