Edmonton Elks Sign Canadian Defensive Back

The Edmonton Elks have signed Canadian defensive back Bruno Lagace to a contract ahead of the 2024 season.

The Edmonton Elks are adding one of their draft picks to the roster, as seventh-round pick defensive back Bruno Lagace signed on Thursday. The Elks made the announcement on social media.

Lagace was picked by Edmonton in the 2023 CFL Draft earlier this year before deciding to return to school with the Montreal Carabins. He helped the team win the Vanier Cup last week. In 35 career games, he totaled 90 tackles, five interceptions, four tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries.

He won awards during his college career as this season Lagace was named to the RSEQ Defensive All-Star team. In 2021, Lagace was named an All-Star for the first time and was named to the U Sports Second Team All-Star.

Since the offseason began, the Elks had signed six players before the signing of Lagace. The franchise is also evaluating its ownership structure during to financial losses and exploring the possibility of a new stadium.

“We need some very high investment into this stadium if this stadium is going to go forward as a CFL stadium,” LeLacheur said of Commonwealth Stadium. “It’s been the love of the CFL for a lot of years, it’s had a lot of events here, but it’s not the stadium of the future that we have in Regina and Winnipeg and Hamilton and Ottawa.

“If there was an unlimited amount of dollars, I’d build a new stadium. That’s what I’d do, but I don’t have that kind of dollars.”

Edmonton ended their season with a 4-14 overall record after starting the season 0-9.
