Hamilton Tiger-Cats Bring Back Star Defensive Back

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats bring back a key piece to their defense as they re-sign defensive back Stavros Katsantonis.

In one of the biggest moves in the early offseason, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats are bringing back one of their top defenders.

The team posted on their X account Monday afternoon that they had re-signed defensive back Stavros Katsantonis to the team.

Going into the offseason, Katsantonis was ranked as one of the top 30 free agents available, listed at 22nd by CFL.ca. He was the third-highest defensive back ranked on the list after a stellar season with the Tiger-Cats.

Katsantonis was taken by the Tiger-Cats in the fourth round of the 2020 CFL Draft. He has played three seasons with the team, recording 74 defensive tackles, 26 special teams tackles, five interceptions, two sacks, two forced fumbles and one touchdown.

The 2023 season was the strongest of his career so far, ending with 54 tackles, five interceptions, two sacks, two special teams tackles, two forced fumbles and one touchdown in 18 games played. His five interceptions were tied for second-most in the CFL, and he played a key role in helping the Tiger-Cats make the playoffs with an 8-10 overall record.

In an offseason that will likely see some big signings made, this was an important one for Hamilton as they look to keep their top defensive players in town.
