Texas QB Jerrod Heard out for rest of spring practice

Texas Longhorns quarterback Jerrod Heard is out for the rest of spring with a shoulder injury, coach Charlie Strong said Tuesday.
Heard started 10 games as a freshman for the Longhorns last season, throwing for 1,214 yards, with five touchdowns and five interceptions. Heard also ran the ball 139 times for 556 yards and three scores.
Heard split time with Tyrone Swoopes at quarterback, and is in a competition for this fall’s starting job as well.

The Longhorns finished 5–7 last season, their second under Strong. Texas finished seventh in the Big 12, losing two of its last three games.
