With the 2023 NCAA tournament bracket set in stone, the First Four matchups are looming, including a matchup between potential No. 11 seeds, Pittsburgh and Mississippi State

The Panthers and Bulldogs will be competing to get into the round of 64 in the bracket’s midwest region. The winner is slated to face Iowa State in the first round, the No. 6 seed in the region.

How Pitt got here: For the first time since 2016, the Panthers are dancing. Led by the guidance of ACC Coach of the Year Jeff Capel, Pitt enjoyed a tremendous regular season (22–11), highlighted by wins over Northwestern, Miami and Virginia.

How Mississippi State got here: With a 21–12 record, including key wins over Marquette, TCU and Texas A&M, Mississippi State shook off a stretch where they lost eight of nine games in the regular season in order to reach the Big Dance for the first time since 2019.
