ESPN’s Ed Werder Was Target of Deion Sanders’s ‘Do You Believe’ Question
They were both characters in the Cowboys‘ glamorous, tumultuous 1990s drama—perhaps the most productive decade for any team in the Big Four American sports aside from the Bulls.
Deion Sanders was a Hall of Fame cornerback, plying his trade for Dallas from 1995 to ’99 to the tune of four Pro Bowl appearances. Ed Werder was a prominent beat writer, covering the Cowboys for The Dallas Morning News from 1992 to ’96.
Now, nearly three decades later, the two personalities crossed paths once again Saturday afternoon.
Johnson: Deion Sanders’s Faith in Colorado Paid Off Big Time
Sanders is now the coach at Colorado, and the talk of the American sports world after engineering a stunning 45–42 upset of No. 17 TCU to open 2023. Werder on the other hand, is entering the fifth year of his second stint with ESPN.
“Do you believe?” Sanders asked Werder after the game, appearing to recognize him in the postgame presser from their overlapping tenures.
"In what?" Werder replied.
“He doesn’t believe,” Sanders said, shrugging and seemingly dismissing the veteran scribe. “Next question.”
Werder, for his part, appeared to respond to the situation with a brief post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, shortly after the press conference.
Sanders—who eagerly told reporters he “keeps receipts” after the Buffaloes’ win—will have a chance to convert more believers next Saturday when Colorado hosts Nebraska.
