LeBron James Provides Update on Bronny’s Return for USC Following Cardiac Arrest
Lakers star LeBron James spoke to reporters on Monday night following the loss to the Heat, and he provided an update on his son Bronny’s progress in his recovery from heart surgery after he went into cardiac arrest in July.
James said that Bronny will receive a medical check up at the end of November. If all goes well and he’s cleared to play, the plan is to return to practice with USC and eventually participate in games as early as this season.
“We have a big moment at the end of this month to see if we can continue to go forward. If he’s cleared, we’ll be not too long away from him being back on the floor and back with his teammates and practicing, with the notion of being back on the floor and playing in game situations,” said James, via Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times.
“Everything is on the up and up, and progress is progress,” he added.
Bronny’s cardiac arrest incident was reportedly caused by a congenital heart defect. A family spokesperson said in August that the congenital heart defect “can and will be treated,” via ESPN. James revealed in early October that Bronny had undergone successful surgery, but was confident his son would play for the Trojans this season.
USC opened its season on Monday night with an 82–69 win over Kansas State at the T-Moble Arena in Las Vegas, with Bronny was in attendance on the team’s bench.
