Washington QB Will Rogers Exits Transfer Portal to Stay With Huskies
Quarterback Will Rogers has withdrawn from the NCAA transfer portal and will remain at Washington. He informed new Huskies coach Jedd Fisch of his decision and has resumed taking classes at the university, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Rogers had transferred from Mississippi State for a fifth season of eligibility, but decided to re-enter the portal after coach Kalen DeBoer left Seattle to replace Nick Saban at Alabama.
The senior QB confirmed his decision to return to Washington with a simple two-word post to social media. “Bow Down” is a reference to the school’s fight song.
Rogers cited a team that went 14–1 and played for the national championship as a major reason for staying at Washington. He also pointed to Fisch’s experience in the NFL as being able to prepare him for the pros.
“That’s the plan,” Rogers told ESPN’s Thamel. “Coach Fisch told me today, ‘I want to treat you like a professional football player.’ I told him that’s what I want, and that’s what I’m looking to do.”
In four seasons at Mississippi State, Rogers threw for 12,315 yards, the second-highest total in SEC history (behind Georgia’s Aaron Murray). He completed 69.3% of his passes with 94 touchdowns and 28 interceptions.
