Sherrone Moore Thanks Jim Harbaugh in Classy Statement After Michigan Names Him Head Coach

New Michigan coach Sherrone Moore has been given the keys to the kingdom.

The longtime Wolverines assistant will inherit a program coming off its first national championship since 1997. Sure, it's possible NCAA sanctions related to allegations of illegal in-person scouting or pandemic-era recruiting await, but Michigan is well-equipped for a new era of Big Ten football.

That would be the doing of coach Jim Harbaugh, who departed for the Los Angeles Chargers on Wednesday. Upon being formally named the Wolverines boss on Friday, Moore went out of his way to thank Harbaugh for his mentorship.

"I want to thank Coach Harbaugh for the faith that he has displayed in me over the past six years and for supporting my growth as a football coach during that time," Moore said in a statement. "I have been preparing my entire coaching career for this opportunity and I can't think of a better place to be head coach than at the University of Michigan."

It's not the first time Moore has gone out of his way to shout out Harbaugh—he did so in emotional fashion after Michigan defeated Penn State on Nov. 11.

Moore will debut as the Wolverines' full-time head coach on Aug. 31 against Fresno State.
