The Alabama football program has experienced quite a bit of change over the last five weeks as new head coach Kalen DeBoer takes over for the retiring Nick Saban.

We utilize the recent news to debut a new segment on "The Joe Gaither Show on BamaCentral" called "3, 2, 1".

The Crimson Tide assistant coaching carousel took another spin over the weekend as three new assistant coaches were reported to join the football program. There aren't many schools with rosters open to the transfer portal at the moment, but Alabama welcomed two new players from the transfer portal. As much as things have changed around the program, many things stay the same as Monday marked the first day of the football program's "Fourth Quarter" training program.

3. New Alabama Football Coaches

  • Chris Kapilovic - Offensive line coach.
      • Kapilovic currently has two offensive lineman on NFL rosters from his time as line coach of the Michigan State Spartans. His units recently showcased Kenneth Walker's abilities enough to see him drafted highly by the Seattle Seahawks. Can he recruit and develop lineman in the Southeastern Conference?
  • Bryan Ellis - Tight ends coach
      • Ellis spent time coaching Sam Darnold at Southern Cal and Bailey Zappe at Western Kentucky before his most recent role at Georgia Southern. While neither have been NFL superstars thus far they are nice pelts on the wall for a young coach. How will Ellis's southern roots be utilized on the staff in recruiting and relationship?
  • Christian Robinson - Outside linebackers coach
      • Robinson has extensive SEC experience despite coming from the Big 12's Baylor Bears. He played linebacker at Georgia before coaching at Florida and Auburn adding more southern flavor to DeBoer's staff.

2. New Alabama Transferees

  • Keon Sabb - Saftey
      • Sabb comes to Tuscaloosa as DeBoer's first defensive transferee. The safety helped the Michigan Wolverines win a national championship but hit the transfer portal after Jim Harbaugh's departure for the NFL. His ability to play multiple positions should serve the Alabama secondary that was hit hard with transition.
  • Josh Cuevas - Tight end
      • Cuevas is a developmental tight end from Washington, giving DeBoer four former Huskies to work with on the offensive side of the ball. While he wasn't a consistent threat for Washington he did make a handful of big plays in the passing game. His main role will likely come in the meeting room and on the practice field communicating concepts to his teammates.

1. First Day of "Fourth Quarter"

The Alabama football program retained David Ballou as director of sports performance and Monday signified the first day of the Crimson Tide's "Fourth Quarter" workout program. The team holds grueling workouts in the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility as spring practice is right around the corner.
