The University of Alabama's administrator for the football program, Matt Self, was arrested Sunday by Tuscaloosa police, and charged with third-degree domestic violence.
Police were called to a residence at 12:10 a.m., from where Self, 45, was subsequently transported to the Tuscaloosa County Jail. He was placed on a 24-hour domestic violence hold, with bond set at $300.
He was not listed in the Tuscaloosa County database on Monday afternoon.
An Alabama athletics spokesperson told BamaCentral: “Alabama Athletics is aware of this incident. We take such matters seriously and will continue to gather more information to address this personnel matter.”
Self's title is the Deputy Director of Athletics, Compliance and Support Services, as he oversees the compliance office. He's also a member of the department's executive staff, overseeing equipment operations, sports medicine/athletic training, nutrition and strength and conditioning. Self is the sport administrator for football and volleyball.
Self earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Alabama School of Law, and was admitted to the State Bar of Alabama in 2004. He left his private law practice in July of 2008 to join the Alabama Athletics Compliance Office, and after serving as the primary compliance liaison to football for several years was promoted to lead the compliance department in 2016.
Per his Alabama bio: "A licensed attorney, Self assists the department with risk management, contracts and legislative issues and regularly works with the UA Office of Counsel, UA President's Office, UA Systems Office, outside counsel and other on-campus partners."
