Alabama Baseball's Mac Guscette's Tests "Checked Out Well," Heading Back to Tuscaloosa After Scary Collapse
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — It was a scary sight on Sunday afternoon when Alabama Baseball's Mac Guscette collapsed on the field at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.
During the seventh inning, a wild pitch bounced up off the dirt and made contact with Guscette in the throat area. After taking a moment to drink some fluids, he collapsed on the field and was taken away by medical personnel.
"Mac is alert and doing well,” Alabama Baseball said on Twitter Sunday night. "He is having some tests run to make sure everything is ok before returning from Baton Rouge. We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers!"
"With the information that I have we think that Mac is going to be OK,” head coach Brad Bohannon said Sunday.
On Monday morning, a member of the Alabama Athletics Communications staff gave BamaCentral an update on Guscette.
"All of Mac's tests checked out well, and he is on his way back to Tuscaloosa," the source said.
Guscette is playing his first season with the Crimson Tide after transferring from Florida in July 2022. He has started 28 games this season — hitting .289 with an OPS of .927, six home runs and 25 RBIs.
Alabama was swept by No. 1 LSU this weekend, dropping to 30-15 overall and 9-12 in the SEC.
