Alabama Baseball Shuts Out Southern Miss 13-0

The Crimson Tide used a seven-run fifth inning to remain undefeated in midweek games this season.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — It was another strong midweek showing for Alabama baseball as the Crimson Tide shutout Southern Miss, 13-0.

"Really proud of our club," head coach Brad Bohannon said after the game. "I challenged our team that we gotta play our best baseball more consistently, and they brought it tonight."

Drew Williamson had a solid day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one RBI. Multiple players had at least two RBIs, led by William Hamiter's three runs batted in. Colby Shelton only went 1-for-3, but he had the loudest hit of the day - a solo home run in the bottom of the 5th.

"Hitting is a momentum thing," Williamson said. "You try to hit your stride, and once you get going you usually roll on for a little bit. Anytime you get a multi-hit game, you're happy with that. You love to have some confidence going into the weekend."

As good as the hitting was, the pitching might've been better for Brad Bohannon’s squad. Jacob McNairy, who was credited with the win, pitched 4 2/3 innings of shutout baseball with four strikeouts and no walks.

He was relieved by Zane Probst, who came in with two runners in scoring position but was able to get out of the jam and continue the strong team performance from the mound.

With the win, Alabama improved to 24-10, but the challenge is to carry it over to the SEC series this weekend, and it's against none other than the Auburn Tigers.

"It's a huge weekend for a lot of reasons," Bohannon said. "The biggest reason being it's the next one, and the biggest reason is our record is 4-8 in league play. That trumps anything.

"We know those guys really well - our coaches know their coaches, our players know their players, so that adds a little juice to it."

The first pitch for the opening game will be at 6 p.m. CT on Friday. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+.
