TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama Baseball has had one of its strongest starts in recent program history. But within the 14-0 start, head coach Brad Bohannon reached a personal milestone as the man in charge:

150 career wins as the head coach of the Crimson Tide.

As soon as a reporter mentioned the accomplishment after Alabama's 21-7 blowout win against Alabama State, Bohannon responded in disbelief, saying "Oh wow!" as he was asked about his journey from his first season in 2018 until now.

"I really hadn't thought a lot about it. It's crazy how fast it's gone," Bohannon said. "It's crazy how long it's taken to get to 150, but I'm really proud of the progress the program has made."

The program has progressed a lot from when Bohannon was first hired. In 2017, the program finished 19-34-1 with an abysmal 5-24-1 record in SEC play. In 2018, Bohannon's first season, the program finished 27-29 with an 8-22 conference record. The year after that, Bohannon had his first winning season at 30-26.

It could be argued that Bohannon would have reached 150 wins a lot sooner had the coronavirus pandemic not cut the 2020 season short, when Alabama was 16-1 before everything was shut down.

Now Bohannon is off to a similarly strong start, winning the first 14 games of the 2023 season in impressive fashion — the Crimson Tide has scored at least 10 runs in all but four games. Of course for Bohannon, his next goal is simple — to get win No. 151.

This year's team is also poised to make some serious noise. The offense is loaded with talent, power, athleticism and most importantly, experience. A part of that experienced group is Jim Jarvis, the senior shortstop who's hit a home run in back-to-back games.

"It all starts at the top," Jarvis said. "Whatever you see on the field doesn't just happen. Imagine the amount of work that's getting put in by the coaching staff in guiding us in the little things, whether that's approach, pitch-calling or defensive approach. It all starts from the top."

And the top is where Bohannon resides.
