Director of Alabama Athletic Grounds Jon DeWitt on The Joe Gaither Show: Episode 42, July 18, 2023
The Alabama Crimson Tide football program remains on the cutting edge of college football by undertaking a massive project in Bryant-Denny Stadium this offseason.
The program evaluated the grass inside the stadium and decided the time was right to install a $6.2 million state of the art playing surface.
Alabama installed a SubAir System designed to regulate the temperature and moister level on the grass, ensuring safe and consistent play for football games year round. Additionally, the program installed Northbridge Bermuda grass that will pair well with the SubAir System to produce a consistent surface throughout the fall and winter seasons.
"The Joe Gaither Show on BamaCentral" welcomed Director of Athletic Grounds at the University of Alabama, Jon DeWitt on the Tuesday program to describe the process and the progress that's been made in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
DeWitt detailed the advantages the new system will provide Alabama and talked about the logistics of actually pulling off such a massive project.
How did dump trucks force their way into Bryant-Denny Stadium and just how deep does the new field system go?
DeWitt discussed the attention to detail the University places on its facilities and outlined how much work he and his staff put in each week to keep the playing surfaces pristine.
We enjoyed our conversation as we learned all about the field, Nick Saban's involvement with the project and how many variables go into making the magic happen on game day.
