Four-Run Sixth Inning Propels Alabama Baseball Past Missouri, 6-4
A four-run sixth inning powered by three home runs for Alabama baseball was the difference as the Crimson Tide beat the Missouri Tigers 6-4 on Friday night in Columbia, Mo..
After Alabama took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Missouri responded with a run of its own scored on a wild pitch by Crimson Tide starting pitcher Luke Holman. The Tigers picked up two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, snagging the lead and seemingly pulling away from the Crimson Tide.
However, in the top of the sixth, Alabama catcher Dominic Tamez hit a leadoff home run to pull the Crimson Tide within one run. In the very next at-bat, right fielder Andrew Pinckney hit a solo home run to tie the game. Alabama wasn't finished yet, though, as designated hitter Jaxson West hit a two-run home run to give the Crimson Tide a 5-3 lead.
A solo home run for Missouri catcher Dylan Leach in the bottom of the sixth was the last run scored by the Tigers. An RBI-double by Crimson Tide third baseman Colby Shelton in the top of the seventh gave the game its final score: 6-4.
Hagan Banks (1-0) picked up the win for Alabama, with Alton Davis II earning his fourth save of the season. Austin Troesser (3-3) was issued the loss for Missouri.
With the win, Alabama moves to 27-12 on the season and is 7-9 in SEC play. Missouri falls to 23-14 with the loss and is now 5-11 in conference play. The Crimson Tide and the Tigers will meet again on Saturday for Game 2 (5 p.m. CT, SEC Network).
