DeVonta Smith Not Worried About Eagles Earning a Georgia Reputation
The Philadelphia Eagles opened offseason training activities this week after losing Super Bowl LVII to close the 2022 season.
Former Alabama wide receiver, Heisman Trophy winner and now third-year Eagles receiver DeVonta Smith met with the Philadelphia media as the week began.
Smith reflected on his first season playing with A.J. Brown and discussed how the pair can make their second year together even better.
Philadelphia signed quarterback Jalen Hurts to a 5-year extension worth $255 million, rewarding him for his hard work and obvious improvement.
"I mean it's amazing, you know, a guy that comes in everyday, puts the work in and you see it pay off," Smith said during Wednesday's press conference. "(He) leads the right way, have a lot of people looking up to him and following him.
"He's part of the reason that guys enjoy coming to work. To see a guy like that, what he does everyday to make himself better, maybe he's doing something that you can probably do to make yourself better."
The Eagles made press signing Hurts to his massive extension but also found the headlines for an interesting draft strategy.
General Manger Howie Roseman has used five of his previous 12 draft picks on Georgia Bulldog defenders, leading many to say the Eagles are, "Built by Bulldogs."
"That's fine man," Smith said. "You bring in championship players to get to the championship, to win it all. If that's what we've got to do, that's what we've got to do."
There are several former Bulldogs like Nakobe Dean and Jordan Davis, there are multiple former Alabama players alongside Hurts and Smith in Philadelphia. Landon Dickerson, Josh Jobe, Eli Ricks and Anthony Steen are also on the Eagles.
While the Slim Reaper hasn't spent offseason time working out with Hurts, he knows they can take their game to an even better level in 2023.
"It's always room for improvement. You never want to be fine with where you're at. You always want to find something that you can be better at and I think everyday when we go out there it's something that we're trying to fine tune"
If he, Hurts and Brown can take another step forward this off-season, the Eagles might themselves flying right back to the Super Bowl in February.
