The Baltimore Ravens defense suffered a significant blow this week as former Alabama star Marlon Humphrey underwent foot surgery on Wednesday. The three-time Pro Bowler is expected to miss about a month's worth of time according to Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

Should Humphrey recover in a timely fashion he could return for the Ravens Week 3 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.

Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh said the injury has been "lingering" for Humphrey and said he didn't expect it to keep the 2019 All-Pro out for an extended period.

The former Hoover High School multi-sport athlete has been a stable in the Ravens secondary since Baltimore selected him with a first round pick in 2017. He's accumulated 347 tackles, 12 interceptions and scored two defensive touchdowns while helping Baltimore win two division titles and earn four NFL playoff appearances.

"It definitely hurts the defense when a leader like Marlon is not out there with us," Ravens middle linebacker Roquan Smith said to the media on Wednesday. "I know he'll get back as soon as he can, and we'll pick up the slack when he's not out there."

The Ravens are also without its other starting corner, Rock Ya-Sin, who is dealing with a minor knee injury.
