Alabama Baseball Introduces Rob Vaughn as the 33rd Head Coach in Program History
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — It's the dawn of a new era for the Alabama baseball program.
Former Maryland head coach Rob Vaughn was introduced as the Crimson Tide's 33rd head coach in program history on Tuesday afternoon in Tuscaloosa.
Vaughn spent the last six seasons as the head coach at Maryland, finishing 183-117 overall from 2018-2023. Vaughn led the Terrapins to back-to-back Big Ten championships in 2022 and 2023 — hosting the only ever College Park Regional in 2022.
Vaughn's hiring comes after the mid-season firing of former head coach Brad Bohannon — a year that saw Alabama reach the super regionals for the first time since 2010 under interim head coach Jason Jackson.
"I didn't think I was going to get emotional before we started," Vaughn said. "Just very thankful for this opportunity. [...] I am a people person. I love people, I love relationships, I love building relationships. [...] As I look at Alabama, you think 'Why Alabama?' Obviously you have the easy stuff — the SEC. This is the most competitive brand of baseball there is. [...] We understand what comes with that. There's pressures, there's a lot of expectation — especially based off what the 2023 team just did. That's what we want, that's what we're built for."
"I'm excited to roll up my sleeves and get to work. [...] I don't need to sell Alabama. We as a staff are going to tell you 'This is who we are. This is what we care about. This is how we're going to coach you. This is how we're going to make you the best version of who you can be.' [...] I'm excited to get started. [...] This program has laid the foundation — now it's time to knock down the gates of Omaha and we're going to do that here real soon."
After a banner year, the Crimson Tide looks to reach new heights under its new, energetic head coach.
