Alabama Basketball Returns to AP Top 25 After Eight-Week Absence
The Alabama men's basketball team has received votes in each of the last three weekly AP Poll rankings, but was never listed in the prestigious top 25. The Crimson Tide had a chance to land a spot in the top 25 last week, but a loss to then-No. 6 Tennessee eliminated that from happening.
However, after upsetting then-No. 8 Auburn and LSU this week, they finally earned their way back into the AP Top 25. Alabama sits at the No. 24 spot in Week 13's poll.
Alabama's 2022-23 season ended far too soon as the annual March Madness tournament's No. 1 overall seed fell to San Diego State in the Sweet 16. The Tide was downgraded to the No. 24 spot before this season started due to multiple players going to the NBA, but they won their first four contests to advance to the No. 22 and No. 17 slots the following weeks.
Alabama lost its first game of the season against Ohio State on Dec. 20 and slid down to No. 23 in the AP Poll a couple of days later. The Crimson Tide didn't receive enough votes in the following week's poll, and after losing four of their five next games, they completely dropped out of the running.
A switch flipped when the calendar turned to SEC play though, and as previously stated, Alabama has received votes in the past three weeks due to a stellar 5-1 start against the conference. They hope to only continue rising in the AP Poll for the rest of the season.
