Alabama Forward Brandon Miller Drafted No. 2 Overall By Hornets

Miller becomes the highest Alabama player selected in the NBA Draft in almost 30 years.
In this story:

After a standout freshman season, Alabama basketball freshman Brandon Miller has been selected second overall in the 2023 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets.

Miller becomes the highest-drafted Crimson Tide player since the 1995 draft, when forward Antonio McDyess was drafted second overall by the Los Angeles Clippers.

In Charlotte, Miller joins point guard LaMelo Ball to create a fascinating young duo for the franchise to build around.

A 5-star recruit headlining a star-studded recruiting class out of high school, Miller was the leader on an all-time Alabama team that won the SEC regular season championship, SEC Tournament championship and made the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament.

The Antioch, Tennessee native averaged 18.8 points per game, leading the SEC, and added 8.2 rebounds while shooting 38 percent from beyond the arc.

Miller's incredible numbers earned him a plethora of awards and recognitions by season's end, including first team All-SEC, SEC Freshman of the Year, SEC Player of the Year and second team All-American status.

Though he started the year towards the late lottery on draft boards, Miller's play caught the eyes of scouts and analysts alike around the country, eventually being considered as the top collegiate prospect in a very strong draft.

The 6-foot-9 forward's frame, versatility, and shot making help create an elite draft profile in a league where the wing is possibly the most valued position in the sport.

The Crimson Tide has now had four players selected in the lottery since the 2018 NBA Draft.
