Celtics Sign Former Alabama Guard J.D. Davison to Second Two-Way Deal
Guard J.D. Davison has signed a second two-way contract with the Boston Celtics to remain with the team in 2023-24, the team announced on Sunday evening.
Per team policy, the details of the deal were not disclosed.
Davison, still just 20 years old, was drafted by the Celtics in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft with the 53rd overall pick after playing one season at Alabama. He was signed to a two-way deal shortly after.
The two-way contract allows players to play for both an NBA team and that team's G League affiliate. For Davison, that would be the Maine Celtics.
In Maine, Davison played in 44 games and averaged 13.2 points and 4.5 rebounds, while leading the team in assists with 7.7 per game. Davison appeared in 12 games for Boston, averaging 1.6 points in 5.5 minutes per game.
Davison's best NBA outing came in an 8-point, 3-rebound, 3-assist game against the Atlanta Hawks on April 9.
Davison is currently playing for the Celtics' Summer League team in the NBA 2K24 Summer League in Las Vegas, where he is leading the team in assists through two games.
Davison's passing ability is his best attribute to go along with his explosive athleticism, and with the Celtics trading away longtime point guard Marcus Smart earlier in the offseason, he may have a chance to earn some more playing time as he develops.
