Alabama RB Jase McClellan Announces Future Plans
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama running back Jase McClellan has opted to forego his final year of eligibility and declare for the NFL Draft.
He made the announcement official with a post on Instagram.
"For the last four years, I have been blessed with the opportunity to play for The University of Alabama," McClellan's Instagram post read. "Without God leading me down this path, through all the ups and downs, none of this would be possible. I am so thankful for the blessings and opportunities he has given me in life that have brought me to this point."
After multiple injury-riddled seasons in Tuscaloosa, McClellan finally stepped into a starting role as a senior in 2023, and made the most of it. On 180 carries, McClellan amassed 890 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground, leading the Crimson Tide in both carries and rushing yards.
Though he was a senior and had played four seasons at Alabama, he still had one year of eligibility remaining due to COVID that he elected not to use.
With McClellan's departure to the NFL and Roydell Williams entering the transfer portal, young pieces in Jam Miller and Justice Haynes are next in line to lead the Crimson Tide backfield in 2024.
Miller, a sophomore, saw an increased role as the season progressed, while Haynes, a 5-star freshman, saw an uptick in work during the Rose Bowl where he averaged around nine yards per carry with his four touches.
Even with McClellan's departure, the Alabama running back room looks to remain in good shape.
