Report: Alabama TE Amari Niblack Plans to Enter Transfer Portal
Another one of Alabama's skill players is likely headed into the transfer portal.
Sophomore tight end Amari Niblack plans to enter the portal as first reported by On3. Niblack confirmed on his personal Instagram account.
Niblack was tied for second on the team with four receiving touchdowns last season and had 20 catches for 327 yards. He played in all 14 games for Alabama with four starts.
The tight end was able to build on the growing hype over the offseason after his freshman campaign only saw him record one catch for 15 yards with one touchdown after appearing in 10 games.
Niblack was recruited as both a tight end and wide receiver out of high school, but was utilized as a tight end with the Crimson Tide.
He is the fifth Crimson Tide player to enter the portal since former head coach Nick Saban announced his retirement on Wednesday joining Isaiah Bond, Antonio Kite, Dezz Ricks and Shawn Murphy. Alabama players have 30 days to enter the portal from the date Saban retired.
Alabama hired Kalen DeBoer on Friday to replace Saban. DeBoer is known as being a more offensive-minded coach. Meeting with the media on Saturday, DeBoer said he plans to put his coaching staff together as soon as possible. He is reported to be bringing his Washington offensive coordinator, Ryan Grubb, with him to Alabama for the same position.
Niblack could still return to Alabama even after entering the portal, but he will have two years of eligibility remaining wherever he ends up. Alabama has now lost its three leading receivers from a year ago whether to the portal (Niblack and Bond) or NFL draft (Jermaine Burton.)
