Report: Seahawks Hiring Ryan Grubb as Next Offensive Coordinator
The Seattle Seahawks are hiring former Washington offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, who recently accepted the same position at Alabama, per ESPN's Adam Schefter and Pete Thamel.
Grubb was linked to the Seahawks offensive coordinator opening the past few days, but when speaking at the National Signing Day event hosted by Yea Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium, the 47-year-old introduced himself as the new Crimson Tide offensive coordinator.
The former Washington offensive coordinator initially planned on joining the Crimson Tide on Jan. 14, which was two days after former Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer was hired for the same position at Alabama. Alabama was searching for a new head coach at the time due to the legendary Nick Saban's retirement on Jan. 10. The Tide also needed an offensive coordinator, as Tommy Rees explored other options and was announced earlier this week as the new tight ends coach and pass game specialist for the Cleveland Browns.
Like Alabama, the Seahawks have had major changes to their coaching staff, as long-time head coach Pete Carroll was fired on the same day as Saban's retirement. Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald was hired as Carroll's successor and now he has Grubb as his offensive coordinator.
Furthermore, ESPN's Adam Rittenberg reported other changes to the Alabama coaching tree on Friday night.
"What I'm hearing on Alabama's staff, per sources, following Ryan Grubb's departure," Rittenberg writes. "Offensive line coach Scott Huff is expected to join the Seahawks. Tight ends coach Nick Sheridan and wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard are both likely to stay as co-offensive coordinators, which is significant. Sheridan could be playcaller, move to QBs."
