In this story:

Aaron Butler is one of the top prospects on the west coast, and the California native has announced his top five programs.

Butler is a consensus 4-star recruit who plays for Calabasas High School in Calabasas, Ca. He is the No. 7 ATH in the 2024 class and the No. 8 prospect in California.

In addition to Alabama, Butler also included Colorado, Oregon, Washington and Georgia in his top five.

Looking at his tape, Butler is a receiver who can take the top off the defense. A lot of the success he had as a wide receiver was either catching a deep ball or fade route in the end zone. He also displayed his explosiveness as a kick returner.

Defensively, his biggest skill is his closing speed in pursuit of the ball. He also would have good size for a corner at 6 feet, 1 inch and 170 pounds.

Alabama brought in a deep secondary during the 2023 recruiting cycle, so he may have to wait his turn should he come to Tuscaloosa as a defensive back. But wide receiver has always been a position where true freshmen have an opportunity to excel.

The receiver room is stacked with its own talent in upperclassmen Jermaine Burton and Ja'Corey Brooks. There is also the young trio of Kobe Prentice, Kendrick Law and Isaiah Bond, along with top transfer Malik Benson and 2023 signees Jalen Hale and Jaren Hamilton. But Burton, Brooks and Benson may leave after next season if they have enough success, meaning Butler could establish himself sooner than later.
