Alabama Basketball Lands 5-Star Aiden Sherrell For First 2024 Commit
Nate Oats and Alabama basketball have started the 2024 recruiting cycle with a bang, landing 5-star forward/center Aiden Sherrell on Tuesday.
Sherrell has been linked to Alabama for quite some time, having visited Tuscaloosa back in September of 2022. He chose the Crimson Tide over the likes of Texas, Michigan State, Oklahoma and Ohio State.
Sherrell is ranked in the top-35 of all major recruiting services in the industry, and is ranked as high as No. 14 overall.
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Sherrell attends Prolific Prep in California, one of the best high school programs in the country. He stands at 6-foot-10, and already weighs close to 220 pounds.
Sherrell is one of the most versatile big men in the class, with unique athleticism and fluidity for his size that, when added to his skillset, creates a game very translatable to the college level. He can run rim-to-rim, being an effective lob finished and rim protector.
He has nice touch on his shot, particularly around the rim but has show improvement as an outside shooter. The mobility and versatility he possesses makes him a commodity in Oats' system which highly values long, multifaceted players.
Sherrell is the first in what many believe could be an incredibly strong 2024 recruiting class for Alabama. The Crimson Tide has already secured visits from a number of 5-star recruits, including Asa Newell and Boogie Fland, among others.
Alabama is also closely linked to Sherrell's high school teammates Derrion Reid and Zoom Diallo, both of whom are top-40 recruits in the 2024 cycle. Reid is slated to visit Tuscaloosa in October and Diallo has stated his intention of scheduling an official visit.
Sherrell's commitment alone jumps Alabama's class into the top-25, and it will only improve as the class continues to make additions.
