Alabama Flips Commitment Of California Safety
The Alabama Crimson Tide recruiting machine strikes again by flipping a 4-star safety on Monday. Peyton Woodyard, from St. John Bosco in California took to his social media to announce he was forgoing his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs and instead choosing to roll with the Tide.
Woodyard is considered the No. 6 safety and the No. 81 overall prospect in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Alabama initially offered Woodyard a scholarship in June of 2021 after a strong performance in a Tuscaloosa summer camp. He had committed to Georgia in January of this year but continued to take visits to colleges. Woodyard was at the Capstone at the end of June for an official visit and ultimately has decided to play for Alabama.
Woodyard becomes Alabama's first safety in the 2024 class and joins defensive backs Jaylen Mbakwe, Zabien Brown and Jameer Grimsely as the defensive backs in the class. He was primarily pursued by Crimson Tide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins.
The flip is pivotal on the recruiting scene as top safety KJ Bolden announced his intentions to go to Florida State over the weekend. Bolden was also considering Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Ohio State. To quickly pivot to another prime safety in the class, and subsequently steal from Kirby Smart's class, signifies a big Alabama win.
The Tide is now up to 16 commitments and is considered to have the No. 5 recruiting class according to 247Sports.
