Van Horn Provides Recovery Update of Second Baseman
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas finally woke up its bats during a dominant 21-1 victory over Grambling State Tuesday afternoon. Following the win, Dave Van Horn closed his press conference with an update on star second baseman Peyton Stovall.
Stovall suffered a broken foot during a scrimmage on Feb. 5. The junior attempted to shake it off prior to coming out of the game. The injury did not require surgery which helped in the recovery process.
"I'd say a couple more weeks," Van Horn said about Stovall's rehab. "He's moving around good, he's throwing, swinging the bat off a chair. What ever we can do to just keep him moving."
Last season, Stovall suffered a torn labrum in April which required surgery and to miss the remainder of the year. The Haughton, La. native recorded a .253 average with five home runs and 31 runs batted in just 38 games.
Van Horn says Stovall remains active in day-to-day with his team. Using precautionary methods, he uses a pitcher's screen while tossing balls in the bullpen to prevent his foot from being hit.
"As soon as he's cleared and he can see live pitching we'll have some of our guys throw to him," Van Horn said. "Everything we can to speed him up, he's trying to do. He wants to play and he's already told me 'when I get back in the lineup I'm never coming out.' So, I hope that's the case."
