Razorback Fans Shouldn't Fall in Blaming Officials' Trap
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — It's interesting to see the reaction from a lot of Arkansas fans after all the penalties in a 38-31 loss to BYU on Saturday night. It wasn't actually the officials doing all of it, but Sam Pittman's not falling into that trap.
He wasn't even wasting time sending in the film or complaining a whole lot. A lot of fans, many of whom don't believe the Razorbacks have ever lost a game because of officiating bias every single week for the last six decades,
"We’ve got it, but we didn’t send it in," Pittman said in his press conference Monday afternoon. "All it is is for self-gratification anyway. Why wasn’t this called? But sending it in to just get verification that, yeah, I was right and you were wrong, it really doesn’t do anything. You get it back on Wednesday or late Tuesday and there’s some things, but you’re never going to agree with what comes out of it anyways. You wouldn’t have sent it in the first place, so yeah."
They also don't put any sort of asterisk in the win-loss column. Even like the loss to Florida in 2009, the complete disaster by the refs didn't overturn the final outcome of the game. Oh, some of the officials got suspended and fined, but it really doesn't matter.
Move on. Sure, some of the calls were questionable, but to spend a second discussing or harping on it days or even hours later is a waste of time. Hog fans tend to hang onto these things too long. No need for us to do the same thing.
The challenge against LSU is big enough. The game begins 6 p.m. Saturday at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La. The game can be streamed live on ESPN and fuboTV.
