Former, Current Razorbacks Make the 2023 Top Transfer List
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Last week, lost in the craziness of everything going on, was a story by ESPN ranking the Top 75 college football transfers and it was a list heavy with Arkansas ties.
No. 25
JAHEIM SINGLETARY
Singletary was a last second surprise that no one saw coming earlier this week. He's a 5-Star cornerback who was the second highest rated recruit in what was Georgia's No. 3 recruiting class that Kirby Smart compiled coming off the Bulldog's first national championship.
Singletary didn't get into any games for Georgia as quarterback Stetson Bennett led the Bulldogs to a second consecutive national championship. He will step into a revamped secondary that looks to evolve from team weakness to team strength.
No. 39
JALEN CATALON
It caught Arkansas fans off guard when Catalon left. Although, if anyone could have used a fresh start, it was the All-American safety.
And while Catalon is from Texas, it ticked off some of the much older fans that the choice was the Longhorns. However, if anyone is going to be upset, it shouldn't about where he went, but how his acquisition is viewed in Austin.
"Catalon won't need to come in and have everything rest on his shoulders, which makes the coaches' gamble a good one if he can stay healthy. If he's healthy, he'll push for starting time and could be an excellent addition. If he suffers another injury, Texas has other defensive backs on the roster." –Tom VanHaaren, ESPN.com
That's right. Catalon left Fayetteville to not only possibly not start, but he's not even a priority at Texas. It's like the Longhorns are Ivan Drago from "Rocky IV."
"If he plays, he plays. Maybe."
No. 47
TYRONE BRODEN
Broden comes to Arkansas in an attempt to fill a desperate need for the Razorbacks. Arkansas needs height, speed and good hands at the receiver position.
While the chance to see him practice was limited, he was a player who forced himself to be noticed. He was one of few Razorbacks creating separation and also demonstrated a natural ability to adjust his route to the ball while it's in the air so even poorly thrown balls look on target.
At 6-7, he also provides an easy to find target downfield.
Broden caught 68 passes over the past two seasons and has averaged 16 yards per catch all three years he was active at Bowling Green.
No. 54
JORDAN DOMINECK
Domineck had a breakout season last year after transferring from Georgia Tech. He seemed poised to come back to the Razorbacks and even released an announcement saying as much.
But then, after a little family time that allowed him a moment to reflect, Domineck decided he needed to make one last move. That move landed him in Colorado where he will be part of Deion Sanders' first Power Five team.
He also takes the experience and growth gained from taking on SEC linemen to the lower competition and pressure levels of the Pac-12. If he was able to improve his game enough to generate 34 tackles and 7.5 sacks with the schedule the Razorbacks faced last season, playing on the West Coast should put his stats on steroids.
How Did These Players End Up Where They Did
Considering Their Names?
No. 14
STORM DUCK
How did this cornerback end up transferring from North Carolina to Penn State? Surely Oregon at least kicked the tires on him. One way or another, this is definitely a missed opportunity.
No. 55
ANTHONY LUCAS
How is it possible that this Texas A&M defensive end didn't make it to Arkansas after he transferred? Did the Razorbacks also miss out on Clint Stoerner, Darren McFadden and Shawn Andrews in the transfer portal?
