Saturday Performance Lands Razorback SEC Pitcher of the Week Status
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Following a complete game effort in a weekend series sweep of Louisiana Tech, Arkansas pitcher Will McEntire has been named the SEC Pitcher of the Week.
The Razorbacks have struggled with injuries in the pitching rotation, so getting a full-game performance out of McEntire, while unexpected, was something this staff needed.
Perhaps the most impressive aspect to McEntire's work on the mound against the Bulldogs is that he was able to come away with the complete game win in less than 100 pitches. The final line was six strikeouts and nine hits on 97 pitches in a 6-1 win.
McEntire didn't even give up a walk until the ninth and the lone run was unearned.
The feat makes the righty the first Razorback since Dominic Taccolini in 2016 to toss a nine-inning complete game as well as the first Arkansas pitcher since Ryne Stanek in 2013 to toss a complete game three-hitter.
The win moved McEntire to 3-0 on the season while clinching the 26th consecutive non-conference home weekend series win by the Razorbacks.
Arkansas begins a five-game week at Baum-Walker Stadium with a two-game midweek set against UNLV. First pitch between the Razorbacks and Hustlin’ Rebels is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, on SEC Network+.
