FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas defensive lineman Taurean Carter has been cleared and is expected to be in spring drills.

Assuming everything stays fine with his injured knee from last year's spring game that sidelined him for the entire 2022 season.

"We’ve been told to watch him," Razorbacks coach Sam Pittman said at Tuesday's press conference ahead of spring drills starting Thursday. "Watch if there’s any swelling on his knee and things of that nature."

It was just part of a myriad of problems that probably could have made a little difference in a 6-6 season that got to the Liberty Bowl, which wasn't what most folks were expecting after a 9-win season before that included an Outback Bowl win.

There will be a bunch of new faces on the roster with 28 players transferring out and new ones coming in. Pittman feels like Carter is one of those, although he's been here.

"It’s like going out and getting a guy out of the portal since he wasn’t here and knowing that he can play and knowing that he understands who we are and things of that nature," he said. "That certainly helps."

After playing a three-man front for a few years, now the Hogs are hoping to have four, which is what Pittman prefers.

The Hogs added John Morgan III from Pitt and Trajan Jeffcoat from Missouri on the defensive line.

"I like our transfers and again, I like their work ethic,” Pittman said. “That’s the biggest thing you’re concerned about in the portal is, A, why? And B, are they willing to work? We’ve seen that they will do that."

Spring is where they find out more and that will start Thursday.
