What Hogs' Coach Sam Pittman's Press Conference Will Be

On radio earlier, Razorbacks' coach didn't offer any surprises about spring starting.

In this story:

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — We kinda got a preview of what Arkansas coach Sam Pittman will tell us this afternoon earlier this morning.

With spring football starting Thursday, he got on a morning radio show in Fayetteville and said pretty much what we figured.

Oh, and he's not making a lot of projections, which is how coaches tend to handle thesse things before even spring practice has started.

"It's all situational football," Pittman said after losing four games where 10 points would have made the Razorbacks a 9-win team.

He knows what doesn't have to be fixed, but quarterback KJ Jefferson has to get comfortable with a new offensive coordinator and probably some new wrinkles.

His maturity helps there, considering he's been around now four years.

"His development, willingness to learn a new offense and leadership ability," Pittman talked about around new offensive coordinator Dan Enos. "KJ's really grown up. It's been neat to see over the last four years.

"Dan's really excited about that as we all are."

Combine that with a healthy stable of running backs, some new linemen figuring out their roles and a whole new batch of wide receivers working out, the offense should be okay.

There are some new coordinators on the defense, which was the biggest problem last year. Travis Williams will be the lead of a double-coordinator setup along with Marcus Woodson, who will try to fix the secondary.

"We certainly weren't very good last year," Pittman said. "That's not demeaning to our players, former coaches or anyone else. We just weren't very good in the secondary last year."

That would be, at times, an understatement.

Now he's got a spring to get things fixed with new coaches and players for a program he's still completely all-in with.

"Every year you get a little more vested," he said. "We need to give the people of Arkansas something to be proud of."

We'll have the complete press conference this afternoon here at allHOGS.com along with opinions and analysis.
