Hogs Gain Left Tackle Transfer Commitment Over SEC's Ole Miss, South Carolina, Auburn
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — San Jose State offensive tackle Fernando Carmona has committed to the Razorbacks, per brother George Carmona’s Instagram account.
For the second time this week Arkansas has fended off a SEC rival for a transfer commitment. The 6-foot-5, 315 pounder chose Arkansas over Ole Miss, Michigan State, South Carolina, Texas Tech, and Auburn. He was scheduled to take a visit to Auburn following his official visit in Fayetteville.
Carmona is the second offensive line addition from the transfer portal joining Michigan State’s Keyshawn Blackstock, who is formerly a junior college All-American.
The Las Vegas native signed with San Jose State as a tight end with one other FBS offer from New Mexico State. Carmona developed into one of the best players in the Mountain West Conference when he earned honorable mention honors following the 2023 season. He started the previous 24 games over the past two seasons and was the only Spartan offensive lineman to have an NIL deal, according to The Mercury News.
California Wet Burrito, a Mexican restaurant located just two blocks south of campus, negotiated a deal with Carmona that included naming a burrito after him and splitting a percentage of profits anytime a customer bought the item.
If food NIL deals speak volumes to Arkansas, potential starting left tackle Carmona could be in for a treat. Wright’s BBQ in Northwest Arkansas has the Big Pig Fund, a name, image and likeness campaign serving Razorback offensive and defensive limemen.
With the addition of Carmona, Arkansas currently holds commitments from five transfers including quarterback Taylen Green (Boise State), Deniko Slaughter (Tennessee), Keyshawn Blackstock (Michigan State) and Andreas Plaaske (Eastern Michigan).
