Texas Longhorns Finally Release Ron Holland, Razorbacks Next?

After never playing game, highly-touted forward back on open market

In this story:

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Now Arkansas coach Eric Musselman and his staff can start chasing Ronald Holland seriously. Texas finally released him from his NIL agreement after probably trying to land him to actually play Tuesday and now the recruitment is on.

The Razorbacks originally recruited the guard along with Kentucky, UCLA, Kansas and probably anybody else they thought had a chance. The G League Ignite thing has been trying to land him for awhile to just bypass the whole college thing, so he's got some options.

"I want to take this time to thank head coach RT and the entire Texas coaching staff for their consideration," Holland said in his decommitment announcement. "I would also like to thank the Longhorn Nation for all their love and support. While this has been a difficult process, I have decided to de-commit from University of Texas and re-open my recruitment."

Holland, a 6-foot-8, 195-pound forward from Duncanville (Texas) High School was a teammate of Anthony Black, who was the Hogs' point guard last year and is headed to the NBA. He was a 2023 McDonald’s All-American and you can probably draw a reasonable conclusion he's talked to Black. He aimed a social media post at him in April.

In this case, Musselman and the Hogs will use everything they can to land another 6-foot-8 guy from Duncanville they've been speculated about as one of the leading destination points for him.

The Hogs are awaiting NBA Draft decisions from Jordan Walsh and Davonte Davis over the next week and somehow you draw lines connecting the dots no matter what everybody chooses. Everybody likes to guess who's going to do what, but we don't know.

One thing we do know is the Longhorns probably haven't really been holding Holland hostage. There's usually something the school hopes to get out of something like that and there's no evidence of that. It's probably just Texas, well, being Texas
