No Clues on Razorbacks' Makhi Mitchell Post Disappearing
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Exactly what a social media post disappearing about Makhi Mitchell. Considering it obviously wasn't like the old official press release, somebody clearly jumped a little quick, but no idea exactly why that happened.
Thursday is the deadline for players to put their name into the transfer portal. It's not a deadline for when players have to commit to go somewhere and players declared for the NBA Draft now have just the option to go try to play pro ball or come back to the Razorbacks.
The social media post declared he would be returning to the Hogs, which most people were assuming. Right now there are no clues, but a lot of guesses and speculation on what it could mean, if anything. Nobody's brought up the idea it could be a misdirection because it did get the talking heads on sports radio something to discuss.
Hogs coach Eric Musselman is still sorting out rosters, but who is having to make up their minds hasn't or else nobody wants it public until they are ready. There are a lot of guesses and speculation, but no answers.
If Mitchell were to leave, he would have to put his name in the portal by tomorrow. He's out of eligibility after one more season and there are no draft projections for him or probably other pro prospects. Good size, fills a role inside but he's not in the category of great big men in the game.
The Hogs are still in the mix for some transfers, but everybody is waiting to hear what Texas' Ron Holland is going to do ... if he leaves the Longhorns. They haven't officially released him, so that may be one of his options.
Musselman is probably juggling a jigsaw puzzle with one eye closed ... or else it feels that way sometimes.
Decisions from Davonte Davis and Jordan Walsh are coming later. With Walsh projected anywhere from the first round to not being picked at all, it may be in his best interest to go there. Davis, on the other hand, doesn't have the same options and has to either roll the dice playing in Europe or a foreign land.
Of course he also has the option to return to the Hogs where it's anybody's guess what kind of NIL deal he could put together. He was one of the first athletes to get some good deals, according to what we've been told. Nobody knows anything for sure. Which, of course, is the new world of college athletics.
