Auburn Gains Commitment From Elite Georgia Recruit
Auburn's 2025 recruiting class was good coming into Monday, and it's definitely improved since the latest commitment announced for the Tigers.
A primary emphasis for Hugh Freeze and his staff has been hitting the state of Georgia. The efforts already began to show dividends with tight end commitments Hollis Davidson and Ryan Ghea each coming from the Peach State. Today is the latest Georgia prep prospect to join the Auburn recruiting fold.
From the 247 composite rankings, Devin Williams comes in at #89 nationally. Programs from across Dixie and beyond wanted the services of the Buford (Ga.) High School standout.
Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Florida, Florida State, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Texas, Penn State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State are some of Williams' offers. Watching Williams' film helps to explain why those programs wanted him.
First, Williams has shown to be twitchy. His natural athleticism allowed for stop-and-start movements that most football players, and even other cornerbacks, do not possess.
Next, it's the length that Williams has played with. Even when Williams was behind a receiver, his long arms often help him deflect a pass and/or block the vision of a receiver.
Finally, yes, Williams has proven he can run with speedy receivers. Even having played against top Gwinnett County competition, Williams has also run by defenders when playing receiver. Combined with having mirrored top receivers, he's fast enough to play at the SEC level.
Welcome to the Plains young Mr. Williams!
