Auburn dropped their series opener against #1 LSU after the bats weren't able to get going against Paul Skenes.

Auburn ironically out hit LSU, but Skenes struck out 15 batters making it nearly impossible to scratch runs across.

This was part of the plan against LSU as the Tigers held Tommy Vail for the Saturday game.

What can we take away from Auburn's 3-0 loss to #1 LSU?

This was all part of the plan

Tommy Vail has been the Friday night guy for Auburn nearly all season and has been dominant in that role. The coaching staff smartly decided to start Chase Allsup, as it's nearly impossible to win a ball game when Skenes is on the bump. Auburn will have Vail and Christian Herberholz on the bump for games two and three of their series, with LSU hoping to steal a game. Will Cannon and John Armstrong will also be available for Auburn in the final two games of this series. This was a great call by Coach Butch Thompson and could help Auburn sneak away with a win against #1 LSU.

Chase Allsup had a solid outing

Allsup threw a career-high four innings against LSU, only allowing two runs. The runs came in the first inning after he plunked the leadoff man and gave up a homer to the two-hole hitter. After this, he was solid before being lifted for Tanner Bauman in the fifth inning. Allsup was dotting his slider on the corners, which helped him get outs against the best lineup in college baseball. If the righty could finish the season strong, it would be a massive boost for this Auburn baseball team.

Chris Stanfield continues to mash

Chris Stanfield continues to hit the ball hard, and in this game, he did it against the best pitcher in college baseball. Stanfield slapped two base hits on Skene's heaters and didn't look fooled much. I'm really excited to see what the future holds for Stanfield, as I believe he will be one of the best players in the SEC soon. He has done a heck of a job leading off for the Tigers over these last few ball games, and this role suits him well.
