Taking a look at Auburn basketball's transfer portal targets
Auburn basketball is now fully in the off-season, which means Coach Pearl and staff are working on getting a few pieces to finalize the 2023-24 roster.
Auburn has already landed one transfer recruit in Denver Jones, who averaged 20.1 points per game a season ago for FIU.
Let's take a look at some of the other recruits we could see on the Plains next season.
Matthew Cleveland
Previous School: Florida State
Position: SG/SF
Height: 6'7
Weight: 200
Stats: 20.1 ppg/ 7.4 reb/ 1.8 ast/ 44.5% fg/ 35% 3pt
Fit: Matthew Cleveland would be a perfect fit for the Tigers as he is a big, versatile guard who can play multiple positions. He would eliminate the Tiger's struggles of guarding bigger guards and can shoot it from deep. Auburn will be getting one of the best players in the portal if they land Cleveland.
Highlights:
Devan Cambridge
Position: SF
Previous School: Arizona State
Height: 6'6
Weight: 215
Stats: 9.8 ppg/ 5.4 reb/ 0.8 ast/ 50.4% fg/ 33% 3pt
Fit: Cambridge knows the Auburn system well, as he spent three years with the Tigers. He would be a perfect backup three next season who can help clean the glass and spark the crowd with a transition dunk. It would be fun to have bounce man back on the Plains.
Highlights:
Ben Middlebrooks
Position: PF/C
Previous School: Clemson
Height: 6'10
Weight: 232
Stats: 3.1 ppg/ 2.7 reb/ 0.4 ast/ 48% fg/ 0.4 blk
Fit: Middlebrooks would be an excellent high-upside depth piece for the Tiger front court in 2023-24. He has played relevant minutes at the power five level, so he could help this basketball team out. Adding Middelbrooks could give you the opportunity to try and play Broome at the four.
Highlights:
Chaney Johnson
Position: SG/SF
Previous School: University of Alabama in Huntsville (D2)
Height: 6'7
Weight: 215
Stats: 15.9 ppg/ 6.6 reb/ 1.6 ast/ 51.4% fg/ 28.9% 3pt
Fit: I don't think Auburn is going very hard after Johnson but the there has been mutual interest when talking about this big guard. He would be a great wait and see piece as, with his height and skill, Johnson could turn into a great division one player. It will be really interesting to see if Auburn pushes for and lands this player what his role would be in 2023-24.
